Highlights

Nestled in the far northwestern corner of the African continent lies the beautiful country of Morocco. Though often misunderstood, the country is an excellent place to visit for a hiking or trekking vacation. When you think of Morocco, the first thing that often comes to mind is sand, and the country does indeed feature the Sahara Desert, the largest desert in the world, covering 3.5 million square miles. However, Morocco is more than just sand; much of the country is composed of soaring mountains and mountain villages. In fact, the Atlas Mountain Range stretches well over 1,000 miles, and its highest peak, Mount Toubkal, stands at a staggering 13,671 feet above sea level.

We offer an incredible opportunity to explore Morocco, including a trek up Mount Toubkal and a stay in Marrakech. Though the trails up to the summit of Mount Toubkal are steep, the views are breathtaking, and you can even see the Algerian borders and the Sahara Desert in the east, as well as the glimmering Atlantic Ocean in the west. You will also have the chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Morocco, from the lively nightlife of Marrakech to the quaint mountain villages. Whether you choose to visit in the summer or winter, you are sure to have an unforgettable experience.

  • Explore the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh’s souks and frenetic Jemma el-Fna Square.
  • Take a week to fully submerge yourself in the centuries-old agricultural traditions of the Central High Atlas.
  • From the valley of Ait Bougmmaze and its fragrant flower gardens to the pastures of shepherds huddled at the foot of M’Goun, you will be in for a unique delight.
  • Glimpse ancient history with the dinosaur footprints that can still be found in M’Goun Geopark.
  • Go further by learning the skill of traditional Berber carpet weaving right in the heart of a Berber home.
  • Delight in the local culture with a cup of tea in the At Bouguemez Valley.

DAY 1 MARRAKECH – ATLAS MOUNTAINS
Leaving Marrakech, we venture on a sightseeing tour that leads us to the lower slopes of the western High Atlas Mountains. After we join our muleteer crew, we start a trek to the north-west, taking in the stunning views of cornfields, woodland, pines, and junipers. We pause at Tiz n’tachete, admiring the view of Imlil, and spend another half hour journeying to Imi n’ifri, where a delicious open-air meal is served. We then slowly make our way south-west on a dirt track for 2.5 hours until we arrive at the beautiful village of Tiziane and the Assif n’ait oussaden valley.
DAY 2 BERBER VILLAGES
We began our adventure-packed day with a substantial breakfast, ready to take on a hike through the Assif n'ait Oussaden valley. Following the meandering trail, we passed plenty of walnut trees until we reached tizi n'Taghrhourte. We were fortunate enough to come across a flat portion of the path that continued all the way to Assaka spring. After an immersive two and a half hour hike, we had a picnic. We continued by exploring the outskirts of the woods that eventually brought us back to the berber village of D'knt or Agouns n Assoul. After a long and fulfilling trek, we settled into our bivouac or gite for the night.
DAY 3 EXPLORE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS
Beginning our hike on the sunny morning, we traveled through picturesque landscapes of walnut groves, corn fields, and barley. Greeting the goat and sheep herders as we went, we followed the Tizi n’Tagdalte downhill into the juniper trees and stopped for a picnic at the small spring. We then walked down winding footpaths of the upper slopes, reaching the beginning of the Assif n’ait Oussaden valley with a view of the river. Finally, we concluded our three-hour hike at Tizi Oussem before heading to Tamsoult, where we settled in for the night either camping or staying at a gite.
DAY 4 IMLIL – TOUBKAL MOUNTAIN
Today you will embark on an unforgettable hiking experience from Azzadene Valley. Starting with Azib n Tamsoult, a beautiful summer village, your route will take you to Ighouliden, a stunning waterfall. Once you reach the top of Tizi n Mzik, you will be treated to a delicious lunch. Then you have the choice to descend into Imlil, a picturesque town, or continue your journey to Marrakech. Following this, you will reach the kasbah to pick up your camel for an unforgettable sunset ride across the desert. After a total of four to five hours, you will finally reach a Berber camp where you can enjoy a traditional dinner and sleep under the stars or in tents.
DAY 7 MERZOUGA DUNES – OUARZAZATE CITY – KASBAH AIT BENHADDOU
Start the day off with a breathtaking view of the desert as the sun rises and hop on a camel to make your way back to the kasbah. Take a guided tour of the area and marvel at the one-of-a-kind architecture. At the end of the day, settle down for the night at a hotel near the city and relax after a 5-6 hour drive.
